How Bail Works

San Diego Bail – Why Bail Out

Most people know very little about how bail works. Luckily, you have come to us for help. We will explain the entire process so that you will be more comfortable about getting a bail bond. A bondsman will answer all of your questions.

When someone is arrested and charged with a crime, a bail amount will be set according to the San Diego County bail schedule.

By paying the bail, the defendant is able to be released from jail for the duration of the court case. The defendant must appear for all hearings after they are released or else the money paid for their release will be forfeited to the court.

If they do show up for all hearings, then the money given to the court will be returned once the case is resolved. Note that this is the process when paying cash bail. The process for using a bail bond company is outlined below.

Because court cases can take weeks, months and even years to be conducted, most people cannot afford to spend all that time in jail. Bailing out of jail is the best way for the person to continue with daily life while the court case is complete. Being out of jail also allows the defendant to be able to speak with an attorney about the case and better prepare for it.

The Bail Bonds Process

San Diego County bail can be extremely high. This can make it difficult for people to pay the full amount to bail out a friend or family member in a San Diego jail. This is when a bail bondsman can help.

A San Diego bail bondsman can help you get your loved one out of jail without the paying the full bail amount. For a fee, equal to 10% of the defendant’s bail amount, the bondsman will post a bond for their release.

For instance, if their bail is $30,000, then you will only have to pay $3,000.

There is simple but required bail bond paperwork. With our company, we offer online bail bonds by fax, email or  or you can work in person with a bondsman. The forms will take only about 10-15 minutes to fill out.

Once the paperwork is complete and payment is received, a bondsman will go directly to the jail  and post the bond.

The will be released after several hours. Time for release will be dependent on how busy the jail staff is at that time because safety must always be the top priority.
