Our friend was arrested on a DUI charge last night. We’ve heard he hit someone’s fence. No one was hurt. He’s never been in trouble before and he’s a straight-A college student. Is there any chance the San Diego Central jail will release him OR?
An OR release, or a release on a simple promise to appear, is generally only granted to people who have been arrested and charged with low-level misdemeanor crimes. These include but are not limited to a basic DUI (where no one was injured and an accident did not take place), those who are arrested for being drunk in public, certain low-level theft crimes, certain low-level forgery crimes and other arrests of that nature. People who are arrested with felony DUI, where there was an accident, regardless as to whether anyone was injured, will not be released on their own recognizance. In this case you’ll want to contact a San Diego bondsman as quickly as possible to help get your friend out of jail fast.
