My husband was arrested a couple hours ago and his bail has been set at $85,000. The problem is I don’t have a lot of money to work with at the moment—he lost both his parents a few years ago and my mom isn’t in a financial position where she can help out. We both have good jobs but we had to file for bankruptcy a couple years ago, so I’m not able to put anything on a credit card. What’s the least I can put down on a bail bond of this size? We also own our home outright, if that helps.
Each situation is a little bit different, but in this case it sounds like you should be able to find a San Diego bondsman who is willing to work with you, especially if you are willing to do a deed of trust against your property. The bondsman will also want to know how much money you currently have to work with (does “not a lot of money” mean two hundred dollars, or do you have a couple thousand that you can use toward a down payment?) and what you can realistically afford to pay each month.
