Sources within the San Diego Central Jail have confirmed that a pair of burglars who have been accused of steeling smokes and booze from a Lakeside pharmacy have been booked into the county lock up.
Store employees said the thief strolled into their store right around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. The burglar wound up tripping an alarm, they said, and when sheriff’s department deputies arrived on scene they saw the suspect leaving the pharmacy and hopping into a getaway vehicle.
A short chase ensued before law enforcement officials were able to pull the SUV over, but the driver laid their foot on the gas before deputies had a chance to approach them.
That’s when the deputies called for back up; the pair finally pulled over when they got into the El Cajon city limits. A spokesperson said a 27 year-old woman and 23 year-old man were arrested; investigators said the duo stole five cartons of cigarettes and more than a dozen bottles of whiskey.
Both are being held on commercial burglary, felony evading and conspiracy charges. The male suspect remains in custody on $55,000 bail bonds.
