An Escondido Police Department officer was hospitalized briefly last week after a suspected repeat drunk driver rammed the back of his patrol car.
Sources within the department say the officer had been on his way to a domestic violence call when the 19 year-old driver sped toward him and hit the back end of the police vehicle. From there, the driver backed up and hit two other parked vehicle before driving away. From there, he started to flee on foot.
The suspect was apprehended a short time later without further incident.
The Escondido PD officer was treated at a local hospital for non life threatening injuries and has since been released.
The suspect was booked at the Vista Jail on charges of felony drunk driving. Jail officials confirm he was charged with a similar offense during the summer of 2013.
Bail bonds information was not immediately available but it’s believed the defendant’s bail has been set in excess of $100,000.
