A spokesperson for the Carlsbad Police Department has confirmed that a 26 year-old, pants-less suspect has been arrested and booked at the Vista Jail.
Police said they began pursuing the man after they were tipped off that he had stolen a vehicle. It’s believed the suspect initially broke into the truck with the intention of burglarizing it, but the crime took a different turn after he found the keys.
Authorities began to pursue the suspect who eventually ditched the pick up alongside of Interstate 5. From there, he jumped into the ocean and proceeded to swim about two miles before he was captured.
According to a report by the San Diego Union Tribune, police said the suspect was not wearing any pants at the time he was arrested. It’s unclear whether the man was pants-less the entire time or if he took them off after he began swimming.
The 26 year-old man was booked at the Vista Jail on several felony charges. His bail bonds information is unknown.
