A spokesperson for the San Diego Police Department has confirmed that out-of-state officers have arrested 37 year-old Tieray Jones in connection with the 2002 disappearance of Jahi Turner.
The then two year-old was reported missing from a San Diego-based park, according to a report by 10News.com, but despite investigators’ best efforts, Turner was never located. Jones initially told police that he’d left the boy at a playground so he could get a soda from a vending machine. When he returned 15 minutes later, Turner, and others that had been playing at the park, were not there.
Although several news outlets have reported that it was believed that neither Turner or Tieray were at the park that day, the SFPD declined to comment.
Turner was taken into custody by police in North Carolina. He’s currently waiting extradition to California; representatives for the San Diego Police Department have confirmed Tieray will be charged with child abuse causing death.
