Sources within the San Diego Police Department have confirmed that investigators are still looking for a man who is accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of diamonds from a downtown-based jewelry store.
The incident took place about a month ago, officers said, which is why they have decided to release the man’s photo to the public in hopes that someone will recognize him.
Store employees said the man walked into the 6th Ave. storefront and asked to see diamonds that were located in one of the display cases. The salesperson became distracted at some point, they said, which is when the thief swiped two diamonds which were valued at more than $12,500.
The thief then said he needed to take a cell phone call, walked outside and made his getaway. He was last seen wearing a light blue shirt, tan shorts and a red baseball cap.
Anyone who has information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
