Sources within the SDPD Western Division have confirmed investigators are searching for an armed gunman who robbed a University Heights convenience store.
Authorities say the unknown man walked into the American Market right around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, pulled a weapon and ordered the employee to turn over his cash. Witnesses say he fled the crime in a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee; it’s unclear whether there was an accomplice inside the vehicle.
A SDPD spokesperson said the suspect stands just under 6 feet tall and is described as being a thin, 20-something year old black man.
The owner of the corner store says this is not the first time he’s been robbed in recent weeks. In October, another unknown suspect broke into the store just before 6 a.m., set off an alarm and cleaned out the cash register. The suspect tripped the alarm but was able to escape before authorities arrived.
Police say it’s unclear if the two incidents are related.
