A representative from the San Diego Police Department has confirmed that a local woman was arrested and booked into the Las Colinas Jail after she shot her husband during a domestic dispute. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and died a short time later.
Officers say the incident unfolded just before midnight on Saturday night. Investigators say they are unsure as to what spurred the argument. What they do know is that the couple, ages 28 and 29, began arguing and that argument quickly escalated into blows. At one point the woman grabbed a handgun. A brief struggle ensued, the weapon discharged, and the man sustained what would turn out to be a fatal wound.
First responders found him lying on the floor in his bedroom. Paramedics administered care at the scene before transporting him to a nearby trauma center. A spokesperson for the San Diego Police Department said the investigation was initially handed over to the Domestic Violence unit but was reportedly passed onto the Homicide Unit after it appeared the victim would not survive.
The suspect has since been taken into custody. Her name has not yet been released to the public. She has been taken to the Las Colinas Jail where she is being detained on an unspecified bail. It is believed her bail could be set in excess of $750,000 due to a pending murder charge. It is not known if she or a member of her family has been in contact with a Las Colinas bondsman for assistance in arranging a bond.
