SDPD Special Units include:
Auto Theft Unit
Officers assigned to the Auto Theft Unit work to prevent vehicle theft and to recover vehicles that have been stolen. Persons wishing to file a stolen vehicle report may do so over the phone by calling 619-531-2000.
Cold Case Unit
Unsolved murders are investigated by members of the Cold Case Unit. Murder does not have a statute of limitations, which means that there is no time limit in which a suspect must be arrested and tried.
Domestic Violence Unit
This unit works out of the Family Justice Center in downtown San Diego. People wishing to file for a temporary restraining order may do so at this location.
Elder and Dependent Abuse Unit
This unit was created in 2000 and seeks to protect the elderly and prosecute those who prey on senior citizens.
Financial Crimes Unit
Members of the Financial Crimes Unit investigate crimes relating to check fraud, forgeries, credit card theft and other related offenses.
Forensic Science Unit
The Forensic Science is the primary crime lab for the SDPD.
Street Gang Unit
The Street Gang Unit is charged with investigating and preventing gang crimes.
Juvenile Services Unit
The Juvenile Services Unit partners with schools and communities to help mitigate youth-related crime activity before it starts.
Parking Enforcement Unit
Parking Enforcement Unit members are charged with patrolling city to enforce rules and regulations pertaining to parking and vehicle abandonment.
Permits and Licensing Unit
Officers working in the Permits and Licensing Unit assist residents with a variety of permitting and licensing needs.
Sex Crimes Unit
These officers investigate felony sexual assault in victims 14 years and older.
Officers assigned to the Traffic Unit help reconstruct and investigate all traffic accidents. They also help educate the public as to how to reduce collisions and improve traffic flow.
